Fire- & blast
rated windows
Protection for demanding environments
At InterDam, we understand the need for reliable safety solutions in high-risk environments. Our window systems are designed to offer the highest level of protection while meeting industry standards. With fire ratings ranging from A0 to H120 and the capability for blast resistance, these windows are engineered for safety without compromising on visibility or functionality.
Where and why to use blast-proof windows
In environments where safety is paramount, the need for robust fire and blast-resistant windows extends across a variety of sectors, for example:
- Offshore platforms: The harsh offshore environment demands solutions that can withstand fire, explosion, and corrosion. Our blast-resistant windows are especially suited for offshore platforms, providing critical visibility and protection in the event of an incident.
- Industrial facilities: For chemical plants and energy facilities, fire-rated and blast-resistant windows are essential to maintaining safety. These windows can be installed in control rooms, escape routes, and other critical areas to ensure continuous protection.
- Defense and critical infrastructure: Military bases, hazardous material storage, power plants, and tunnel infrastructure benefit from blast-proof windows that can resist both blasts and fire while offering optional bulletproof capabilities for added security.
Our heavy duty fire rated window units are supplied with the following specifications:
- Glass as a sealed unit with a minimum of 8 mm toughened glass
- An internal frame made from seaworthy aluminum
- An external frame made from mild or stainless steel
- Standard sound insulation of 48 dB (upgrades are available upon request)
- Standard U-value 2.7 W/m²°C (upgrades are available upon request)
- Installation for welding or bolting
Innovative and tested solutions
InterDam’s G21 windows are fully certified to meet the stringent standards set by organizations such as DNV and Lloyd’s Register. With fire ratings up to H120 and blast resistance up to 1.5 bar, these windows are designed for maximum safety. Additionally, our fire-post-blast certified windows are among the few in the industry that can endure both an explosion and subsequent fire without compromising performance. The following video shows one of our tests:

Customizable solutions for every need
Every project is unique, and so are our window systems. Whether you need specific fire and blast ratings, bulletproofing, or custom dimensions, InterDam provides tailored solutions to fit your exact requirements. Our windows offer clear views with the largest industry-certified dimensions (up to 1,500 x 1,500 mm) while maintaining rigorous safety standards. Why choose InterDam’s fire and blast-resistant windows?
Our fire and blast-proof windows are built to provide the best of both worlds: fire resistance and blast protection. Whether installed offshore or in industrial facilities, these windows ensure that personnel and equipment are shielded from potential hazards. We offer fully certified, customizable solutions that are rigorously tested to withstand extreme conditions. Key benefits include:- Fire-resistant performance: Our fire-proof windows are certified with ratings from A0 to H120, meeting IMO/SOLAS regulations as well as onshore EI (European standard) requirements. This ensures top-tier fire protection for both offshore and onshore applications.
- Blast resistance: In environments where explosive risks are present, our blast-proof windows provide crucial protection. The G21 windows are tested to withstand blast pressures up to 1.5 bar, making them ideal for high-risk industrial zones. Additionally, our A60/EI60 type-approved window is fire-post-blast certified, meaning it maintains its fire-resistant properties even after an initial blast.
- Durability and low maintenance: All our windows are designed to last the lifetime of a project without requiring spare parts or sealant replacement, provided that the outer frames are treated like the hull to prevent rust. The optical quality of the windows remains distortion-free throughout their life, ensuring clear visibility. With excellent thermal insulation, these windows reduce HVAC usage by minimizing heat gain and moisture buildup, helping maintain stable internal temperatures.
- Airtight and gas-tight options: Depending on the safety classification of the area, windows can be designed to be gas-tight (up to 50 Pa, as per NORSOK C-002) to prevent the ingress of toxic gases. The airtightness of our windows meets EN12207 Class 4 standards, and specific models are also tested for higher pressure thresholds (up to 3000 Pa) according to EN13116.
- Weatherproofing and watertightness: All external windows are at least weathertight, preventing water ingress during heavy rain or storms. Higher specifications can also provide watertightness, able to withstand water columns of several meters, as verified by EN12208 and EN12154 testing.
- Fire post-blast capabilities: While most products can only resist either a blast or a fire, our G21 windows have been tested to withstand both in sequence. After enduring a blast pressure of 0.25 bar, these windows continue to provide fire resistance rated at H120 and EI240 (H240) for up to 240 minutes. This dual protection is essential for giving personnel the time needed to safely evacuate or initiate emergency procedures.
Easy installation and comprehensive maintenance
Our windows are delivered fully prefabricated and designed for straightforward installation, whether by welding or bolting. Once installed, they require minimal maintenance thanks to durable materials and high-quality coatings that resist corrosion. We offer assistance, including through on-site supervision or dedicated maintenance crews as required.Contact us
